Symposium Technical Description

This symposium will provide a forum to present issues related to the experimental and numerical investigation of failure, fragmentation, and other forms of localization and their effect on the next higher length scale. As the resources available for simulation of dynamic failure events continue to increase, there is an expectation that the simulations will eventually become a predictive tool that can be used to design materials and structures that exhibit desired failure behaviors. Advances in numerical methods, treatments of localizations, material models, and experimental techniques will all be needed to accomplish these goals and are of interest for this symposium.
