Symposium Technical Description
Multiphase flow of immiscible fluids in porous media is important in a wide range of geological fluid dynamic applications including enhanced oil recovery, subsurface carbon dioxide sequestration, ground water hydrology and nuclear waste disposal. Accurate modeling of the behavior of fluid flow within the microscopic pore spaces in geologic scale media is a challenging task. Conventional scaled-up models of multiphase pore scale flow are known to have a limited practical applicability. The aim of this session is to bring together researchers in the field of modeling and simulation of pore scale flow to both review historical progress and describe new advances in the field.
