Symposium Technical Description
The goal of this mini-symposium is to describe recent advances in the modelling and assessment of inelastic behavior and failure response of biological materials such as compact bone, trabecular bone, dentin, antler, bamboo, etc. All types of biological materials (hard and soft biological tissues) at all length scales (macroscopic, microscopic and molecular) are welcomed. Especially encouraged are contributions that seek to:
- (i) Develop novel experimental testing methods for fracture and inelastic behavior in biological tissues (characterization of risk of fracture, novel imaging techniques, micromechanisms of failure, etc.)
- (ii) Build novel theoretical and computational models to assess and predict inelastic behavior in hard and soft biological tissues (e.g. multi-scale fracture models, FEM methods, etc.)
- (iii) Formulate coupled multi-physics approaches in biological tissues (e.g. couple mechanical deformation, fluid diffusion in soft materials or piezoelectricity in hard tissues…etc.)
